Breaking Free from Scarcity: Rewriting Your Money Story

Have you ever felt like no matter how much money you make, it never feels like enough? Or that spending—even on things you truly need—brings up feelings of guilt? If so, you’re not alone. Many of us grew up with deeply ingrained money beliefs that shape how we see wealth, security, and success.

This month, I’m diving into the topic of Money Mindset & Financial Confidence because how we think about money affects everything—our stress levels, opportunities, relationships, and even our sense of self-worth. I know this firsthand because I spent years trapped in a scarcity cycle, believing money had to be earned through struggle. But the good news? Your financial mindset isn’t set in stone. You have the power to rewrite your money story.

The Scarcity Cycle: My Personal Story

I grew up in a family business where money was tied to effort. Every dollar was earned through hard work—long hours, physical labor, and sacrifice. From a young age, I internalized the belief that wealth wasn’t about value or creativity; it was about endurance.

When I left that business to start my own coaching practice, I carried those beliefs with me. I questioned my worth, undervalued my skills, and felt guilty if making money didn’t feel hard enough. That scarcity mindset seeped into every part of my life:

Scarcity made me live in fear. It kept me small. And I didn’t even realize I was passing it down to the next generation, just like it had been passed to me.

The Wake-Up Call That Changed Everything

When my father passed away in 2022, he left behind financial wealth—but no meaningful relationships. He had spent his life believing money equaled control, that having more meant security. But in the end, all the money in the world couldn’t fill the emptiness of loneliness.

That was my wake-up call.

I had been worshiping scarcity—hoarding, fearing, and believing there was never enough. But at what cost? Did I want to reach the end of my life realizing I had prioritized numbers over memories? That I had been so afraid of losing money that I had forgotten how to live?

No. I didn’t want that.

And that’s when I decided to break the cycle.

How to Rewrite Your Money Story

If you see yourself in my story, I want you to know that change is possible. Here’s how I started shifting from scarcity to abundance—and how you can too:

1️⃣ Identify Your Inherited Money Beliefs

Take a moment to reflect: What money messages did you absorb growing up?

That wealth made people greedy?

Were you taught that money was always scarce?

That spending was reckless?

Now ask yourself: Do I truly believe this, or is this just what I was taught?

2️⃣ Redefine Your Worth

Money isn’t just about hard work—it’s about value. I had to learn that my skills, my knowledge, and my ability to help others were just as valuable as hours clocked at a job. You have gifts, too. Recognizing them is the first step to stepping into abundance.

3️⃣ Practice Abundant Actions

Instead of fearing every dollar spent, I started shifting to gratitude—seeing money as a tool, not a threat. I incorporated daily affirmations to rewire my brain and started making decisions from abundance, not fear. And the more I did, the more I saw that abundance isn’t just about money—it’s about mindset, energy, and trust.

You Have the Power to Change

If you’re feeling trapped in a scarcity cycle, the first step is awareness.

Ask yourself:
✅ What money beliefs did I inherit?
✅ Do they align with the life I want to live?

You don’t have to wait until life forces you to change. You can decide today to break the cycle. To teach yourself—and those around you—that money is a tool, not a master. That wealth isn’t just about numbers, but about peace, security, and generosity.

Because in the end, when we measure a life well-lived, it won’t be by how much we saved—it will be by how much we lived.
